DOWNLOAD BASICS

Before you
install an APK.

A short checklist for making sense of installation sources and permissions.

Start with the source

An APK is an Android installation package. Before using one, check where it came from and whether the publisher and file can be independently verified.

A familiar logo, a forwarded message or a download button alone does not establish that a file is authentic.

Check before installation

  1. Verify the website addressCheck spelling and the service’s own published download instructions.
  2. Review the app detailsLook for the publisher, version, device requirements and update information.
  3. Read permission requestsUnderstand why a requested permission is needed. Stop if something does not fit the service.
  4. Keep recovery in mindUse a unique password and learn where to find the platform’s support and recovery options.
